On December 14, 2011, Fitch Even counsel Kenneth W. Hairston was a featured speaker at the program “Patent Litigation Under the America Invents Act and Other Recent Developments,” sponsored by the Northern Virginia Chapter of the Federal Bar Association. Other distinguished speakers at the program, which took place at the Federal Courthouse in Alexandria, Virginia, included David Kappos, the Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), and the Hon. Gerald Bruce Lee, the Hon. T. Rawles Jones, Jr., and the Hon. John F. Anderson, all federal judges for the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
The panel discussed new USPTO proceedings, reviewed recent changes in damages, and provided an in-depth analysis of major new developments in patent law, including how the new America Invents Act would impact civil litigation in the Eastern District of Virginia, among other topics.
The audience included members of the civil litigation section of the Federal Bar Association, the Hon. Leonie M. Brikema of the Eastern District of Virginia, and the Hon. Gerald J. Mossinghoff, former Assistant Secretary of Commerce and Commissioner of Patents and Trademarks.
