Today the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit issued an opinion in Apple, Inc. v. Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. In this decision, Apple appealed an order from the Northern District of California District Court denying its request for a permanent injunction against Samsung. The case concerns three Apple design patents and three Apple utility patents.
In this decision, the court affirmed the denial of injunctive relief with regard to the design patents but vacated the denial of injunctive relief with regard to the utility patents, and remanded for proceedings consistent with its opinion. The court also affirmed denial of injunctive relief relating to a trade dress claim brought by Apple.
