December 2, 2013
On November 27, 2013, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) announced proposed rules to implement the provisions of Title I of the Patent Law Treaties Implementation Act of 2012 (PLTIA). Title I of the PLTIA implemented the 1999 Geneva Act of the Hague Agreement Concerning International Registration of Industrial Designs (the "Geneva Act"). The Geneva Act provides that an applicant is entitled to apply for design protection in Hague Agreement member countries and with intergovernmental organizations by filing a single, standardized international design application in a single language. For more details on the PLTIA, please see our earlier Fitch Even IP Alert.
The USPTO invites interested parties to submit written comments by January 28, 2014. For more information, please contact Fitch Even partner Edward E. Clair.
