Fitch Even Attorneys Assist with INTA Moot Court Competition

February 14, 2014

Fitch Even attorneys were pleased to once again volunteer their time to plan and participate in the annual Saul Lefkowitz Moot Court Competition, presented by the International Trademark Association (INTA) for the 23rd consecutive year.

Fitch Even partner Joseph T. Nabor and attorney Alisa C. Simmons served on the Midwest Regional Competition Committee, helping to plan and host the regional oral argument competition that took place on February 8 in Chicago, with 49 students from 19 teams participating. Fitch Even partner John E. Lyhus again served as a brief-reading judge this year.

The National Finals will be held at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, D.C., on March 15, 2014.

This annual competition was established in 1990 in honor of Saul Lefkowitz, past chair of the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and is the only moot court competition in the U.S. with a focus on trademark and unfair competition law. Dolores Hanna, former Fitch Even partner and past INTA president, was fundamental in the creation of this competition. Its objective is to introduce law students to important issues arising in U.S. trademark and unfair competition law. Law students who participate in the competition have the opportunity to develop their brief writing and oral advocacy skills in a mock courtroom experience.

Founded in 1878 and now serving professionals from more than 190 countries worldwide, INTA is a not-for-profit membership association dedicated to the support and advancement of trademarks and related intellectual property in order to protect consumers and to promote fair and effective commerce.
