Fitch Even Attorneys Assist with INTA Moot Court Competition

January 24, 2011

Several Fitch Even lawyers are volunteering their time to plan and participate in the 20th annual Saul Lefkowitz Moot Court Competition, presented by the International Trademark Association (INTA). Fitch Even partner Joseph T. Nabor is serving as Vice Chair for the Midwest Regional Competition Committee and Alisa C. Simmons is a member of that committee, assisting with hosting the competition. In addition, Selena M. Spritz will volunteer as a Bailiff and partner John E. Lyhus will serve as a Brief-Reading Judge for the Midwest Region. Washington, D.C.-based partner Edward W. Gray will serve as a Brief-Reading Judge for the East Region.

Oral arguments for the Midwest, East, South, and West Regional Competitions will all take place on February 12, 2011, in Chicago, New York City, Atlanta, and San Francisco, respectively. The National Final Competition will be held at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, D.C., on Saturday, March 26, 2011.

This annual competition was established in 1990 in honor of Saul Lefkowitz, Chairman of the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and is the only moot court competition in the United States with a focus on trademark and unfair competition law. Dolores Hanna, former Fitch Even partner and past INTA president, was fundamental in the creation of this competition. Its objective is to introduce law students to important issues arising in United States trademark and unfair competition law. Law students who participate in the competition have the opportunity to develop their brief writing and oral advocacy skills in a mock courtroom experience.

Serving professionals from more than 190 countries worldwide, INTA is a not-for-profit membership association dedicated to the support and advancement of trademarks and related intellectual property as elements of fair and effective commerce.
