Fitch Even Partner Thomas Lebens Honored by AYSO; Appointed to National Legal Commission

Fitch Even partner Thomas F. Lebens was honored for outstanding contributions to the American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) at its National Annual General Meeting on May 29 in Traverse City, Michigan. Mr. Lebens was presented with a Presidential Award in recognition of the pro bono intellectual property legal work he and Fitch Even performed on behalf of the AYSO during the past year. 

On May 30, incoming AYSO National President Paula Berriz announced the appointment of Mr. Lebens as Chair of the AYSO National Legal Commission. The purpose of the commission is to provide legal counsel to the AYSO national leadership. Mr. Lebens has been active with AYSO since 2003, serving in various roles, including as an Area Director with responsibility for administering AYSO programs for 6,000 local children since 2008.

AYSO, a national association of the United States Soccer Federation, has been the leader in establishing groundbreaking youth soccer programs in the U.S. Founded in 1964, AYSO now has over 50,000 teams and more than 600,000 players. Its vision is to provide world-class youth soccer programs that enrich children’s lives, with a strong emphasis on ethics and sportsmanship and the development of the whole child.

Mr. Lebens is an accomplished patent attorney specializing in the prosecution of patent, trademark, and copyright applications, as well as matters involving intellectual property and business strategy, licensing, and infringement issues. In addition to his patent practice, he currently manages West Coast operations for Fitch Even’s San Diego, Los Angeles, and San Luis Obispo offices.
